Different and New… (GELS)

I’ve been wanting to try something new and a little outside my comfort zone.  Since I have a somewhat mini studio now, I went ahead and pulled down my new seamless backdrop, gelled my speedlights and prayed for no whining.  Instead I got an infant who fell asleep, not bad!  This was framed a little tight, but gives you the general idea of what I was trying to achieve.

Two speedlites, one gelled light lavender behind subject (1/16th power), the other center high diffused through a 32′ silver umbrella (1/8th power)

The other shot is just me playing around today bothering Dominic with my camera.  😉

Two Weeks Old…

Yes, it’s actually be two weeks now this weekend Giuliana was born.  We wanted to do a more personal shoot for her rather than around the house candids.  Everything worked out fairly well except for the fact she was awake the whole time!  This is normally not the case as she is asleep more than she is awake.  Although I guess we got lucky to get those beautiful (what we think is) blueish eyes in some great compositions.

It’s rather hard shooting newborns and keeping them content!  This was actually my 1st as well.  Having said that, here are some of our favorites.  These are all shot with natural light and various light modifiers for extra fill.

Brenizer First Attempt…

Here’s a brenizer that I shot today after a few tries.  Not the greatest background composition, but it’s slim pickens this time of year indoors.  At least Giuliana makes for a great subject!  Not to shabby for a first attempt at this technique.  20 images stitched together, shot at F/1.8
